Mega vs The Traditional Reformer

“To compare the reformer to the Megaformer is to compare a Ford Model T to a Lamborghini Urus.” -Sebastien Lagree

At Lagree Fitness, we pride ourselves on the creation of unique, refined, and specially engineered fitness equipment that is designed to deliver exceptional results in a short amount of time. As a result, there is much confusion as to the differences between The Megaformer, a Lagree-patented piece of equipment, and the reformer, the traditional Pilates reformer. However, the application and the range of both machines are completely different. Here’s why.

The Limitations of the Traditional Pilates Reformer

Unbeknownst to many, the traditional Pilates reformer is a design over 100 years old. In fact, the reformer was first created in the 1920s and has seen little to no modifications since. Originally, the reformer was used to rehabilitate and restore the body’s natural balance by:

  1. Strengthening the weaker muscles
  2. Stretching the bigger muscles

For this reason, clients in reformer Pilates classes spend most of their class sessions lying on their backs.

Due to the overly simplified design, the reformer does not include a platform on either end. Instead, there is only a small foot bar located on the front of the machine, and that bar does not include a bar attached to it.

Additionally, a typical reformer includes 2 shoulder rests that are located on the carriage and designed to keep the body in place. Located on the back end that connects to the carriage, there is a set of ropes. In front of the 86-inch reformer, there are springs attached to the front.

The Megaformer is a Beast Compared to the Traditional Pilates Reformer

The Megaformer is a beast in comparison, boasting a 130-inch length, making it 44 inches longer than the traditional reformer. In addition, the Megaformer includes 2 large platforms on the front and back, which can be used for a variety of exercises not possible on a reformer.

Additionally, the Megaformer includes two separate sets of cables that connect to the carriage, which is also designed much differently than that of a traditional reformer.

Unlike a reformer Pilates class, a person will spend little to no time resting on their back while taking a Lagree Megaformer class. As a result, the Megaformer is designed much differently than a traditional reformer and seeks to:

  • Break down muscle fibers
  • Get the heart rate up
  • Change the body's composition

It’s no wonder participants see much quicker and impressive results when taking Lagree classes in comparison to Pilates classes.

Lagree Stays Ahead of the Curve

The Megaformer holds more than 70 patents, making it the "reformer" with the most patents anywhere on the planet. In fact, no other company holds more patents on this type of fitness equipment than Lagree Fitness.
